PP TREES
The installation, PP Trees, evolved from techniques and experiments developed during production of the Meltdown Series.
The installation is both an expression of the capabilities of the material from which it is made - polypropylene pipe - and also an examination of attitudes towards plastics and our perception of beauty. The trees are not intended to be accurate representations of natural forms but to evoke an atmosphere similar to what one might experience standing amid a cluster of cherry trees in full bloom. Though made entirely from appropriated polypropylene pipes and cable ties, the delicate play of light and gracefulness of the formed tubes encourage us to look beyond the intended application and appreciate the poetic potential of the banal.
Materials: Polypropylene pipe; nylon cable ties; ultra fine stainless steel wire rope.
Tube diameters: 32mm & 40mm
Tree heights: approx 3m to 5m
Tree widths: approx 2m to 4m
Year: 2011
